BELHURST WINS THREE SILVER
MEDALS
IN NEW YORK WINE & FOOD CLASSIC
August 29, 2007 (GENEVA, NEW YORK) — Belhurst Winery president Mr. Duane
Reeder proudly announces the recent winning of three silver medals and
one bronze medal in the New York Wine & Food Classic 2007 Wine
Competition held in Napa Valley, California. The awards were based on
blind tastings by 24 expert judges— including prominent wine writers,
restaurateurs, retailers, and wine educators. Over 750 wines were
entered in this competition.
Winning a silver medal, the Belhurst Pinot Grigio 2006 is priced
$17.95. This dry white wine, showing hints of lemon and lime, has become
a summer favorite in the Belhurst tasting room.
Also winning a silver medal was the Belhurst Merlot 2005, priced
at $26.95. This particular Merlot, with a complex nose of smoke and
cedar and a chewy black cherry flavor, closely resembles the taste of a
west coast Cabernet rather than an east coast Merlot.
The ever popular Belhurst Cabernet Franc Reserve 2004, priced at
$26.95, earned a silver medal. Garnet colored, this superb Cabernet
Franc has vibrant red fruit, raspberry and cranberry, abounding from the
glass. A wonderful food friendly wine, the Cabernet Franc Reserve is
Belhurst’s best selling red wine.
Legends Les Mange-Cailloux Chardonnay 2004, a frequent award
winner, was awarded a bronze medal. The wine name, French for “The Stone
Eaters,” honors vineyard workers who clear the many glacial rocks from
our Finger Lakes vineyards. The color of this Chardonnay is bright
golden, testimony of the long oak aging. The nose is stunning and
complex with ripe fruit notes combined with delicious aromas of vanilla,
caramel and spices including cinnamon, cloves and white pepper. This
wine is priced at $28.95.
All Belhurst wines are available for tasting and purchase in the
Belhurst Wine & Gift Shop on the shores of Seneca Lake, and for purchase
on our website at www.Belhurst.com.
Known for its charm, unique architecture, and stunning lake views, the
Belhurst properties include Belhurst Castle, originally built in 1885;
White Springs Manor, originally built around 1900; and The Vinifera Inn
which opened in 2004. The Reeder family acquired the Castle in 1992 with
the dream of offering Finger Lakes visitors the unique beauty, luxury
and romance of historical legend. Belhurst is on the National Register
of Historic Properties, has been voted One of the Most Romantic Places
in NYS, has won thirteen Awards of Excellence in the Wine Spectator
Restaurant Awards Program, and continues to be one of the most beloved
destinations in the Finger Lakes.
